The 2011 wiki
02What happened
The year
Magnetotactic bacteria navigate by the Earth’s magnetic field, using chains of flawlessly formed magnetite (Fe₃O₄) nanocrystals they grow themselves — more precisely shaped than any manufacturing process can manage. The catch is that the bacteria are very hard to culture. The team set out to move the biomineralization pathway into E. coli instead, and to build a method of gene expression driven by magnetic fields. This season was recorded as unrecoverable for years, because the project wiki’s scaffolding was left as the unedited iGEM template. The prose underneath it was real all along — the description above comes from that wiki, which is still live. The competition result is still unknown; no results page survives for 2011.
No result recorded: no reachable iGEM results page exists for this year.

No awards are recorded for this year. See the note on the left for why that may be a gap in the record rather than a result.

Nothing from this year has been recovered yet. If you have photographs — lab work, the Jamboree, outreach, socials — they belong in the Gallery.
